South Africa may only take up 2% of the world’s land surface, but it’s home to 10% of the world’s plant species and an incredible 7% of all reptile, bird, and mammal species. And let’s not forget its stunning coastline, which harbors 15% of the world’s marine life—a paradise for nature lovers!
And then, there’s Cape Town. If you’ve been, you already know—but if you haven’t, let me paint the picture for you: It’s vibrant, artsy, friendly, and effortlessly cool all at once. Stepping out of our hotel onto the lively Waterfront, we were instantly immersed in the rhythm of the city—live music playing all day, fantastic cafés and restaurants at every turn, and some of the best shopping around.
Just an hour’s drive away, you’re in wine country, where rolling hills, vineyards, and charming cellar doors invite you in for a tasting. South Africa’s signature grape? Pinotage. If you spot a bottle at the wine shop, grab it—you won’t be disappointed! This country was even more picturesque and diverse than I had imagined, and I already can’t wait to return.
One of my favorite experiences was taking a cooking class in Bo Kaap, Cape Town’s famously colorful neighborhood, filled with art galleries and rich cultural history. We were welcomed into a local home and learned to prepare Cape Malay-inspired dishes—and let me tell you, they were absolutely delicious!
South Africa was a dream for a week, but honestly, we could have spent three weeks exploring its coastline, wine regions, beaches, mountains, and game parks. It was simply spectacular.
The Sky Safari: A Luxury Experience Like No Other
The second half of our journey took us on a luxury Sky Safari—and WOW, did we love it! We started with a day in Nairobi, visiting an elephant orphanage, where we watched baby elephants playing like a group of rambunctious kids. Later, we learned about different giraffe species—and even got to feed them up close!
The way we set up our safari made all the difference. Instead of long, bumpy drives between parks, we flew from camp to camp, maximizing our time on safari and at the lodges. Each of the three lodges we stayed at was unique and special, with impeccable service and thoughtful details—from same-day laundry service to hot water bottles and blankets waiting for us on our early morning game drives.
I have to say, this was one of the most relaxing trips I’ve ever taken. Once we arrived, everything was seamless: comfortable open-air vehicles, breathtaking landscapes, and luxury tents in stunning settings. Sitting back and watching the vast African wilderness unfold before us was something truly unforgettable.

Is a Safari on Your Bucket List?
If a safari is something you’ve been dreaming about, let’s chat! I’m currently looking at putting together a small-group hosted safari to Kenya & Tanzania during the Great Migration in September 2027, as well as additional trips in January 2026 or 2027.
If you’d like to be among the first to get details, email me and let me know you’re interested! It would be a small group of like-minded Canadians, and I would personally host the trip.
I can’t say enough about this experience—it was truly the trip of a lifetime. Yes, it’s a long journey, but once you arrive, everything is easy. With all meals included, effortless flights, no passport control between camps, and luxury lodges in breathtaking locations, I promise—you’ll fall in love with Africa just as I did.
