Hello, dear travellers!

What a summer it’s been here in Edmonton! I’ve enjoyed every bit of it, from the vibrant festivals to the warm, sunny days that make our city come alive. As we transition into fall, my focus is shifting to our upcoming adventures, and I’m excited to share a few highlights with you.

First up, as most of you know, I’m eagerly preparing for our hosted trip to New Zealand this November. It’s going to be an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to explore the stunning landscapes and rich culture with our group.

Another trip generating a lot of buzz is the “Charms of the Mekong” with AMA Waterways in February 2026. The interest has been overwhelming, and I’m thrilled to say we’re putting together a group trip for this unforgettable experience.

This month has also been incredibly busy with everyone’s travel plans—I’m excited to be getting clients ready for their fall adventures to Croatia, the Azores, and Namibia. Families are also opting for more adventurous spring and Easter breaks, with plans for unforgettable trips to Japan, Costa Rica, and Italy with the kids. I’m getting quite a few requests for winter sun holidays, or ‘fly and flops’ we call them, so just a heads-up—inventory for December and January is already becoming scarce, so if you’re thinking of a winter escape, we have to talk right away. Do not delay!

As you know, I absolutely adored my time in Greece, and I’m excited to share a suburb feature in the deals section of this newsletter. Make sure to read all the way to the bottom!

Finally, I’m collaborating with the Retired Edmonton Teachers to launch their very first travel club day. We’re planning a half-day event filled with inspiring speakers who will share tips on how to get the most out of their travels. It’s going to be a fantastic way to connect and learn.

Wishing you all an excellent start to the fall season. Let’s continue to explore the world together!

Warm regards,

Julie

Important Update from Air Canada: Check-In Policy Changes

Starting September 4th, Air Canada is updating its check-in policy to enhance your travel experience. The check-in cutoff time will now be 60 minutes for all flights, regardless of the sector. This change is designed to streamline the boarding process and ensure a smoother, more efficient journey for everyone.

For our frequent fliers, this update means your upgrades will now be processed 15 minutes earlier, allowing for an even more seamless travel experience.

Air Canada Offers Flexibility Amid Strike Talks

As strike negotiations continue, Air Canada has introduced a goodwill policy offering flexibility for travellers. Customers can change their flights without a fee if their travel dates fall within the strike period. This policy aims to minimize disruption and provide peace of mind for those with upcoming trips. If you have a flight booked with Air Canada, check their website for the latest updates and options available to you.

Insurance Update from Manulife Regarding Possible Strike

The Air Canada strike became a known event on August 14th when it was published about the potential strike action. If you had insurance before August 14th, you’ll be covered, but as of August 14th onwards,  it is classified as a pre-existing or known event; therefore, any disruptions won’t be covered. That’s akin to buying insurance when your house is already on fire.

Air Transat Returns with New Options from Edmonton

Air Transat is back for Edmonton travellers! While they haven’t flown out of Edmonton in recent years, they’ve partnered with Porter Airlines to offer new routes. Now, you can fly from Edmonton to Toronto or Montreal and connect directly to exciting destinations like Lima, Porto, Athens, and Marseille. It’s another great option to consider for your next adventure!

New EU Entry-Exit System Launches November 2024

The EU will implement a new Entry-Exit System (EES) in November 2024 to enhance security for non-EU travellers. This system will require digital photographs and fingerprints for non-EU visitors, including Canadians.

In mid-2025, the EU plans to introduce the ETIAS travel system for visitors from 60 visa-free countries, requiring electronic travel authorization. There will be a small fee attached. There could be potential travel delays due to these new measures.

We have been hearing about this for a while now, but once I have a final date, I’ll let you know.
