France Expands Smoking Ban to Outdoor Public Spaces

Travellers to France should note that starting July 1, smoking will be prohibited in all outdoor public areas accessible to children. This includes beaches, parks, public gardens, bus stops, sports venues, and the areas outside schools. The measure is part of France’s National Anti-Tobacco Programme, aiming to protect children’s health and promote a tobacco-free generation by 2032.

Importantly, smoking will still be permitted on France’s iconic café terraces and e-cigarettes are
not included in the ban. However, travellers should be aware that fines of up to €135 may apply
in restricted areas.

This change reflects France’s ongoing efforts to create healthier, smoke-free public spaces for both residents and visitors.
